When it comes to playing fair, many say the Democratic Party has all the finesse of a poker shark slipping cards up their sleeve. And it seems ActBlue, the progressive fundraising powerhouse, might just be the latest ace in their deck.

With a subpoena fresh off the press, House GOP leaders are FINALLY digging into the financial wizardry behind Democrats’ small-donor platform – one that, as critics allege, may have more than just American dollars fueling it. But as usual, our Republican friends are a little too late to the game. The election is tomorrow. The money has already been donated and most of it spent.

ActBlue or Act Shady?

At first glance, ActBlue seems like your typical crowdfunding site for the underdog. But GOP leaders claim there’s a twist in the tale: what if those “small donors” aren’t so small, or, for that matter, even American? According to them, foreign money could be infiltrating this so-called grassroots network, making the Democrats’ financial muscle a bit too “international” for comfort.

Foreign funding frenzy.

If these allegations pan out, it means that ActBlue has been accepting donations from overseas sources looking to tip the scales in key elections. So, while the Dems preach campaign finance ethics and transparency it looks like they find no harm in a few euros or yen joining the mix if it props up their cause.
