There are, admit it, some Democrats we can tolerate. There are some moderates left in that party, though few, who are still good people and patriotic Americans. Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California has a plan to make an alliance with them. The purpose? To prevent Nancy Pelosi from continuing as Speaker of the House.

When the new House sits in January, a more Republican House by more than several, one of its first orders of business will be to elect leadership. That includes speaker. Many Democrat incumbents who won, most notably Abbie Spanberger of Virginia, have openly criticized Pelosi and have said Pelosi and her hard left allies cost the Democrats seats in the House. Republicans could, after all votes are tallied, gain by as much as a dozen. Would Spanberger and other moderates and/or ticked off Democrats want Pelosi to pay for her political tin ear and mismanagement of House Democrat political fortunes?

Is Pelosi seen by sane Democrats, especially if they president loses reelection, as a tired empty reminder of the Trump era they think is about to end? If they have a new president, and we’re all supposed to all “heal” (hah!), why would they want an old divisive crone leading them in the House? Uh huh. Exactly.

McCarthy, per the video above, can probably count on the 10 previous votes against her as speaker. That’s all he needs. He can also probably pick up angry Democrats like Spanberger and some freshmen who want a new era. Pelosi must know this. That puts McCarthy in a great negotiating position.

He can run for speaker himself and try to cut a deal. Bad idea. Gives him the responsibility and thus the blame when things tank, as they will. He can put the Republicans behind a moderate Democrat for speaker. Best strategy, as they would be serving at his pleasure. Or, does he cut a deal with Nancy for very enhanced minority say in the running of the House, using her own thirst for power against her, both of them knowing he has the votes to defeat her and kick her out of office at any time? Ah, parliamentary politics, my favorite.
