‘I Believe In The Purity Tf the KLA War’, Says Kosovo’s EX- Prime Minister

Kosovo’s former Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj said that he believes in the just war of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), following the indictments confirmed by the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against its senior figures.

“A War is a war, a war has tragedy because we are talking about war, but I believe in the justice of that war, in the purity of that war and in the innocence of my co-fighters, such as President Thaci, Parliament. Speaker Veseli, Parliament Speaker Jakup Krasniqi and all other co-fighters,” Haradinaj told Euronews Albania’s TV show “Balkan Talks” on Friday.

The Kosovo Specialist Chambers confirmed the indictments against the KLA leaders, ex-President Hashim Thaci, former Parliament Speakers Kadri Veseli and Jakup Krasniqi and former Vetevendosje MP Rexhep Selimi.

The four KLA senior figures will be brought before The Hague- based court next week.

“I have the honour to say to the world, not only Albanians but to the world that we are a generation who have created our freedom,” Haradinaj told Euronews Albania.

Haradinaj himself as former commander of Dukagjini KLA operational Zone was charged with war crimes by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, but he was acquitted of all charges, twice.

Haradinaj resigned as Prime Minister after summoned as a war crime suspect in The Hague for the third time in 2019.

On the other hand, talking about the dialogue on the normalization of relations between Prishtina and Belgrade, Haradinaj stated that Kosovo needed for the EU to have the same approach as the one from the USA, to be led by leaders of Germany or France.

“Not that Josep Borrell and Miroslav Lajcak [the European Union’s foreign policy chief and the EU’s special envoy to the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue] do not want for the dialogue to be successful, but because it needs the political chiefs like Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron or Donald Trump,” Haradinaj said.

Regarding Lajcak’s statement on amending the constitution in order to establish the Association of Serb- majority Municipalities, Haradinaj said that this would set two precedents; first, it would make the executive be out of the function of interpreting the Constitution, and second, it would make Kosovo leave the EU stance of that time that “Kosovo implements the association in accordance with its Constitution”.
