Julie Andrews of “The Sound Of Music” fame shocked her fans on Thursday by revealing that she once made out with the legendary comedienne Carol Burnett, and that they were caught by a former First Lady!
While appearing on “The Kelly Clarkson” show to promote her new memoir “Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years,” Andrews recalled a humorous story from the 1960s about herself and her longtime friend Burnett. She explained that she and Burnett were bored at a benefit waiting for their friend Mike to show up, so they decided to go watch for him by the elevators.
“It was Lyndon Johnson’s inaugural, so the hotel was pretty packed, but at that hour it was quite quiet,” explained Andrews, 85. “We decided to sit on a sofa in front of the elevators and wait for Mike. I swear I don’t remember which one of us decided that we would do something silly when Mike got out of the elevator. So one of us said, ‘Let’s be kissing or something.'”

Andrews and Burnett proceeded to get into “a big embrace” when they heard the elevator arrive, only to find out that it was “simply packed with Secret Service men,” and that Mike was not on it. The next elevator also arrived without their friend, but the two women recognized who stepped out of it.
“Eventually, a lady got out — Carol swears it was Lady Bird Johnson — the lady went down the hall, realized it might be us, and she came back,” Andrews recalled.
“By this time Carol was laughing so hard that she went around the back of the sofa we were sitting on because we both had tears running down our faces at being so silly,” she added with a laugh. “And the lady came and looked over the back of the sofa and said, ‘Excuse me, are you Carol Burnett?’ Immediately Carol said, ‘Yes, and this is my friend Mary Poppins.'”
Andrews had won an Oscar in the 1960s for portraying the iconic character of Mary Poppins in the Disney movie of the same name. Meanwhile, Burnett was known for her eponymous sketch comedy show “The Carol Burnett Show,’ which is still beloved to this day.
