Those who follow Captain America star Chris Evans know that his beloved dog Dodger appears regularly on his social media accounts. What many fans may not know, however, is that Evans even has Dodger’s name tattooed on his chest!

Evans explained his decision to get this tattoo on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Thursday night, saying that he’s had the ink for “a few years now.” The 39 year-old A-lister added that he made the decision to get the tattoo “not long” after he brought Dodger home.

“That’s probably one of the purest relationships I have so I’ll never regret that tattoo,” Evans said of Dodger. “I’ve regretted a few in my life, but not that one.”

Evans went on to joke that he’d already made Dodger return the favor.

“Oh, I already did it,” he joked of having his dog get his name tattooed on his chest. “He had no choice.”

Kimmel initially thought that the canine may have been named after “Dodger Dogs,” which are sold at the stadium where the Los Angeles Dodgers play. Evans, however, was not having any of it.

“No, I’m from Boston so it would be sacrilegious to name him after that,” the Red Sox fan fired back. “It’s a far more embarrassing story that I now get to explain every time someone asks me.”

Big smiles!

It turns out that Dodger is actually named after a character in the 1988 movie Oliver & Company.

“There’s a movie called Oliver & Company. It’s a Disney movie, an animated movie that I grew up watching,” Evans said. “When I first saw him in the shelter, I said, ‘Oh man, that looks like Dodger from Oliver & Company.’ After I decided I was taking him home with me, I went through the process of thinking of other names and I just couldn’t get off Dodger. So I just said, ‘I’m not gonna over-think this one.'”

This comes a year after Evans opened up about his love for dogs in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. He even said that his love of caring for dogs has made him want to become a father.

“Dogs are just so good and so pure. A weird, little door unlocks inside of you, this new level of empathy…in a weird way, that type of empathy permeates so many aspects of your life,” Evans said. “You know, I think it actually unlocks a little bit, as I imagine having children will. I really want kids too.”
