Royal insider Lady Colin Campbell, who was friends with the late Princess Diana, spoke out this week to claim that Meghan Markle told her PR team that she wanted to be the “most famous person on the planet” prior to her marriage to Prince Harry.
Campbell, author of the book “Meghan and Harry: The Real Story,” claimed that in the year before Meghan left the royal family with her husband, she started pursuing commercial and political activities that are traditionally against the rules for members of the royal family. She allegedly told her PR team that her dream was to be the most famous celebrity in the world, something she knew could only happen if she was “controversial.”
“I started writing that book because last year I knew privately that Meghan – with Harry’s connivance was getting up to all sorts of things in America that she was completely forbidden from doing as a royal,” Campbell said while appearing on Graham Norton’s BBC podcast.
“Getting involved with commercial enterprises, flying kites in terms of politics, because she ‘s very political, and also instructing her PR people that they were to make her into the most famous person on earth,” Campbell added. “To be the most famous person on earth, it’s a very deliberate policy and it has to involve a tremendous amount of controversy, otherwise you’re just not that famous.”
She went on to claim that when Harry and Meghan found out that she was writing about them, they tried to intervene.
“They did try to influence the narrative through mutual friends,” Campbell said.
This comes two months after Campbell accused Meghan of playing on Harry’s weaknesses” and of behaving “completely unacceptably” by coaxing Harry away from his family.
“Meghan’s influence is very reminiscent of Lady Macbeth,” Campbell told The Sun. “It’s so sad because I remember Harry growing up and he was great with my kids. To gain a toehold over Harry she appears to have played to his weaknesses, just as Katherine has played to William’s strengths.”
“Meghan shares a lot of Harry’s weaknesses. He is hyper-emotional, over-the-top, rushes where wise people don’t and is extremely self-important,” she added. “The way she has acted is completely unacceptable in the Royal Family. Even Diana knew how to be a princess and when to toe the line. Meghan appears, to me, very good at talking the talk and not walking the walk. She is leading Harry down a path he will struggle to find his way back from. I fear for them.”
