Back in June, the McCloskey family became a household name when footage showed them brandishing weapons at Black Lives Matter protestors who trespassed through their private neighborhood on their way to the St. Louis Mayor’s house. During the incident they allegedly threatened to take the McCloskeys lives and destroy property. Now, that same couple is being charged with felonies as the nine BLM members who trespassed on private land are walking free.
At the time of the incident, the backlash felt by the family was tremendous. Death threats, mysterious calls, protestors following them. The McCloskey never wanted to be in the spotlight, but unfortunately, they have found themselves in the hot seat when they protected their livelihoods. But according to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, “It is illegal to wave weapons in a threatening manner at those participating in a nonviolent protest, and while we are fortunate this situation did not escalate into deadly force, this type of conduct is unacceptable in St. Louis.”
What about the nine members who willingly trespassed on someone else’s property? Well, that must be more of a suggestion than an actual rule since all nine members are walking away free while the innocent must prove their… innocence.
An attorney for two of the protestors believes his clients are innocent on the grounds that it only benefitted the McCloskey couple, not the taxpayer. What exactly does that mean? In his own words, “This did not benefit the taxpayers. The only people that I can see that this would have benefitted was the McCloskeys.”
Still confused, don’t worry, City Counselor Michael Garvin released a statement saying there was no reason for prosecution because the owner of the property didn’t want to press charges against the nine BLM members. Even members within McCloskey’s neighborhood are giving in and supported the Antifa Movement now.
Luckily, not everyone in Missouri is so easily swayed as the Republican Mayor said he would most likely pardon the couple if they were found guilty. He didn’t want to make a definitive answer until all the evidence is brought to trial, but he does want the couple to know they do not stand alone.
