The Supreme Court (SCOTUS) has handed the Trump camp three recent wins. Are the decisions perfect? Not exactly. Logical? Debatable. But hey – a win’s a win. What’s truly absurd is that some of the Republican-appointed justices still can’t seem to locate the Constitution (or common sense) with both hands and a flashlight. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett, in particular, keep cozying up to the Left-wing justices like it’s a bipartisan brunch.
Nevertheless, Trump’s wins include:
1. Blocking a lower court’s order to reinstate thousands of federal workers recently shown the door: The Court delivered a 7-2 decision halting the rehiring of approximately 16,000 probationary federal employees. These individuals were part of the administration’s initiative to trim the bloated federal workforce. While this is a “win,” the federal workers will be on paid administrative leave (vacation) while the lawsuit plays out. How nice for them.
2. Deportations to El Salvador: On April 7th, the Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision (Coney Barrett sided with the liberals), lifted a block on deporting suspected Venezuelan gang members to El Salvador. This ruling supported the Trump administration’s invocation of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. The Court, however, stipulated that detainees must receive notice and an opportunity to challenge their removal through habeas corpus proceedings in Texas, where they are detained. Habeas corpus for foreigners who invade our country…Outrageous!
3. Teacher-Training Funding: Three days prior to the deportation ruling, the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to temporarily halt over $600 million in teacher-training funding amid ongoing litigation. In a narrow 5-4 ruling (Roberts sided with the liberals), the Court approved Trump’s emergency appeal.
While the Constitution might still be playing hide-and-seek with some of the justices, the scoreboard doesn’t lie. Trump’s legal batting average at SCOTUS is on the rise – which means that the left’s hair is on fire. Sure, a few decisions come with caveats, courtesy of Roberts and Barrett sipping soy lattes with the liberal bloc – but in the end, maybe the tide is turning in favor of the Constitution, America, safety and common sense.
