If there’s one thing Democrats hate more than a secure border, it’s tariffs. Or at least it is when Donald J. Trump is president. Then again, they are the resistance to everything he does, good or bad.
Apparently, Trump’s plan to slap tariffs on things like Chinese electric vehicles and solar panels has them clutching their soy lattes. You’d think they’d cheer for Americans buying American – especially when it means supporting union workers. After all, isn’t that what they claim to want? But consistency isn’t their strong suit. When it comes to opposing Trump, logic takes a back seat to reflexive resistance against Orange Man Bad. It’s called TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome).
Yes, it looks like the Dems don’t want the U.S. workers (not even the unionized ones) to undercut Chinese megafactories – or ones in Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea or Japan. To the Left, it’s an economic hate crime to not allow foreign countries to screw us over with huge tariffs.
According to the Dems, protecting American industry is isolationist, bad for the climate, and I’m sure somehow it’s also racist. Give it a few more minutes and they’ll throw “homophobic” in there too.
No, tariffs aren’t sexy. Or quick. But they beat the pants off the current model: buying slave-labor-subsidized products from overseas. Apparently the Left prefers that we outsource everything instead to countries with zero environmental standards and 14- year-olds on factory floors.
Democrats certainly seem eager to let American workers compete with countries that don’t even have minimum wage laws or any kind of labor standards. If it costs a little more to slap a “Made in the USA” label on a product, that’s fine to many of us if it means it wasn’t made by someone working a 20-hour shift for $1.25. But the Dems? They don’t feel the same.
In fact, the Left is busy showing up all over the media saying that tariffs are taxes and that America is doomed. Where was all of this concern for the economy when their pretend-president Biden was ruining it?
I think it’s time for everyone to stop crying about tariffs and start cheering for American jobs – instead of buying things that have product labels in Mandarin.
