Coal Hard Truths: Trump Bets Big on Energy

The tariffs and the battles over them are creating unrest in the markets. After soaring to start the day on Tuesday, the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 all fell back into the red—not as bad as last week—but certainly not what millions were hoping for when they saw the numbers early in the day.

For many, it’s hard to take—especially those who are retired and relying on the investments they’ve made to carry them through the rest of their lives.

And right now, Wall Street futures are shaping up with the same uncertainty.

I’ll continue to watch that story unfold—but it’s time to shift gears to something that might actually pay dividends for the country in the long run: a reimagined, re-tooled “America First” energy policy.

It was one of President Trump’s hallmark promises on the campaign trail—Make America Energy Dominant Again.

And in the early days of his second term, he hit the ground running. He declared a national energy emergency and began unlocking every tool at his disposal to not just spark an American energy resurgence, but to cement the United States as the global leader in energy production.

On Tuesday, he doubled down—this time with coal. Dozens of American coal miners were invited to the White House, where the President signed an executive order aimed at expanding, building, and defending coal production across the country. The goal? Push coal to new heights and go head-to-head with the Chinese—who, it’s worth noting, have been building two new coal-fired power plants a week for years.

Let that sink in. Two coal plants a week. Some in China, others in far-flung corners of the globe. And many of them aren’t even being brought online yet—they’re being built in anticipation, for a future where power is leverage and control.

The Chinese are playing the long game. They want the ability to light up the world on their terms, when and where they choose.

It’s the kind of strategic thinking that’s kept American policymakers up at night. But while China mapped out its energy dominance, Democrats remained in the dark—chasing the Green New Deal, a plan that, had it gone unchecked, could have left America quite literally in the dark for decades.

Now, the road to a brighter future begins here—at home.

The crowd of miners who stood behind the President at the White House? Jubilant. After years of being sidelined, even vilified, by the previous administration, they were finally being recognized—not as a problem, but as part of the solution. Bite #5

Throughout the event—which ran longer than most executive order ceremonies—President Trump didn’t miss a beat hammering his opponents. He called out Biden and the Democrats’ failed policies.

And why wouldn’t he? For the coal industry—and arguably for the country—they were disastrous.

American energy dominance fuels more than just power grids. It fuels economic growth, national security, and a sense of self-reliance you can’t measure in barrels or BTUs.

And amid the politics and policy, the President took a moment to do something else—thank the miners. By praising them, he praised the American middle class. The men and women who work hard, often out of sight, to keep this country running strong.

Meanwhile, the tariffs are still stealing headlines—and yes, critics say they’re shaking up the markets. Probably true. But don’t expect them to vanish. President Trump is playing the long game there, too—pushing for lasting changes designed to make America stronger, more independent, and more resilient for generations to come.
