Let this be a cautionary tale: always double-check your Costco location – unless you enjoy government ramen noodles and a side of deportation.

A Guatemalan mother of two, known only as “Sarahi,” took a wrong turn with her kids and her brother that may end up sending her out of the U.S. for good. Her crime? Trusting GPS. Instead of heading to Detroit’s Costco, Sarahi clicked on the Windsor, Ontario location and unknowingly crossed the Ambassador Bridge. Oops.

Sarahi, who originally entered the U.S. without documentation in 2018, told officials she had no idea she was leaving the country. But U.S. Customs and Border Protection was not amused. When she tried to return to the United States, agents detained her for five days. Her companions in detention included a TV, some board games, oatmeal and ramen noodles.

Sarahi said that her two kids, both U.S. citizens, aged one and five years old were also held with her – until they started getting sick. CBP offered to place the children with relatives, but Sarahi initially refused, likely hoping for mercy.

Eventually, Sarahi gave in and released the kids to family, and she was transferred to ICE custody. She’s now awaiting a court hearing and the very real possibility of deportation – thanks to a bad Costco decision and a border line drawn in the wrong place.

CBP released a statement: “When individuals violate immigration laws, their choices make them subject to detention and removal.”

Yes, illegal aliens are still illegal – regardless of the sob story or shopping list. Maybe if enough folks get the hint, they’ll start self-deporting.
