Ahoy, mateys! The Democratic ship is bracing for a full-blown mutiny. At the helm of the progressive pirate crew appears to be elderly independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and NY Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), the social media darling who’s never met a free-market success story she didn’t want to tax into oblivion.
According to reports and looking at leftist media coverage, AOC and her progressive pals – Sen. Bernie Sanders and Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett – seem to be getting a lot of good leftist media coverage as they eyeball a leadership coup inside the Democratic Party. The plan? Drag the party so far left it’ll make Karl Marx blush.
While Republicans are popping the champagne, some old-guard Democrats are less than thrilled. Enter Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin, who just lobbed a Molotov cocktail into the progressive camp by asking the obvious: “What have they actually done to change the situation with Donald Trump?”
Good question, Senator. But when Trump is in office, being the “resistance” is good enough for most Dems. Right now, the Democratic Party is in full-blown resistance mode, holding town halls across the country to badger Republicans and also setting up protests to battle Elon Musk and tank the Tesla company.
Does anyone actually want what AOC and the progressives are selling? The Green New Deal and climate change initiatives? Trans men in women’s sports and locker rooms? Open borders? Socialism? Drag queens reading at libraries? Nope. That’s why Trump is president again.
But AOC and her buddies don’t care. They’ll keep resisting and swearing and being the opposition to making American great again – using all of their social media channels and viral videos. To them, marketing is more important than governing and getting anything done to help America. Yes, it’s far easier to trend on TikTok than negotiate bipartisan legislation.
Meanwhile, over in the GOP corner, strategists are likely breaking out in song. After all, a Democratic Party steered by AOC sounds like a gift that keeps on giving. For Republicans, it’s like Christmas, Hanukkah, and the Fourth of July rolled into one.
Unless centrist Dems like Slotkin can start presenting a more balanced and grounded Democratic Party nationwide, Republicans will keep holding the upper hand – without having to lift much of a finger on the campaign trail (which is just as well, since they’re still notoriously bad at it).
