Electric vehicles (EVs) are marketed as the green saviors of our climate woes, but could they also be the next tools of terror? It seems that while some folks have been busy plugging in our Teslas, bad actors have been taking notes on how to use them for evil.
The Bourbon Street tragedy.
New Orleans saw tragedy unfold on approximately 3:15 a.m. on New Years Day, as an EV Ford F-150 Lightning, was used in a terrorist attack that was committed by an American who the media is calling a converted ISIS terrorist – Shamsud Din Jabbar.
The Ford EV was rented out on Turo, a car-sharing app, and had an ISIS flag and explosives inside. Jabbar used the EV to plow the vehicle into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 15 and injuring dozens of others.
Four other ISIS terrorists are being sought in connection with the attack, having been seen on camera putting explosive devices in the French Quarter. A fire at an AirBnB is also believed to be connected to the Bourbon Street terrorist attack.
Explosion in front of Trump Hotel in Vegas.
And in what looks like another terrorist attack that happened in Las Vegas around 8:40 a.m. on New Years Day, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded and caught on fire in the valet area in front of the Trump International Hotel. The attack killed one (the driver) and injured seven.
These tragic attacks highlight a chilling reality: as technology evolves, so do the methods of those who seek to harm us.
UPDATE: Another common theme with the perpetrators of these terrorist attacks in addition to using EVs is the fact that they were in the military and had been in Afghanistan.
