In the latest episode of “What Exactly Are We Paying the Federal Government For?” Homeland Security Secretary, Democrat Alejandro Mayorkas, had a cringe-worthy moment before Congress, admitting that his department’s power to deal with rogue drones is…limited. Yes, the people tasked with keeping the nation safe from airborne threats are essentially throwing their hands up, saying, “Sorry, not much we can do here.”
Mayorkas claimed that existing laws hamstring Homeland Security from neutralizing drones, no matter how sketchy or dangerous they might be. So, if a drone buzzes over a critical piece of infrastructure or a hospital, apparently, the only thing DHS can do is shrug and send thoughts and prayers.
Guess that means that we have sitting ducks everywhere: the presidential inauguration, the upcoming Olympics, sporting events, Hollywood award shoes, nuclear facilities, military bases… you name it. Everything is fair game and unprotected – at least when the Biden Administration is running the show.
This brings us to the burning question: which is worse? The federal government lying about the drone problem to save face, or openly admitting they have no idea how to handle it? If your guess is “both,” congratulations, you’ve won today’s prize – another reason to lose faith in Democratic leadership.
Yes, apparently, we’re not going to know what’s going on – or shoot any of the drones down to study them – until January 20th when Trump takes office.
What makes this debacle even more absurd is that Democratic lawmakers, especially those at the top, instead of rallying to fix the problem, seem to be conceding defeat. After all, why would a superpower like the United States need to control drones in its airspace? Who cares if foreign entities or tech-savvy criminals use them to wreak havoc? Let’s focus on what really matters – like fighting for climate change, DEI, pronouns and transgender surgeries.
Meanwhile, the skies over America are becoming a Wild West of buzzing drones, and the people in charge are looking more and more like the Keystone Cops. If these drones were delivering voter registrations for Republicans, maybe the government would care.
But since they are probably just surveillance tools, weapons, or espionage devices, DHS figures it’s probably fine – because it’s being done by one of Biden’s “friends” like Iran.
