Sucky Democrats We’re Still Stuck With…

Despite Republicans winning many of the big-ticket seats thanks to Donald J. Trump, a handful of “sucky” Democrats managed to cling to their seats like a bad stain. Let’s take a look at the characters we can’t seem to shake off, no matter how many people hoped otherwise.

Nancy Pelosi, Apparently Forever: At 84 years old, Nancy Pelosi just secured her 20th term in Congress, effortlessly raking in 80% of the vote from her ultra-blue California district. Apparently, her constituents can’t imagine a world without her – even if the rest of us can.

AOC: More Bronx and More Ridiculous Comments: The Bronx re-upped its contract with Squad member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who will continue to fill our feeds with her stupid hot takes and hashtags. AOC won her seat again, proving that her base is as enthusiastic as ever for her brand of… let’s say, “creative” policy ideas.

Tlaib and Omar: More Squad Power: Michigan and Minnesota aren’t quite ready to part ways with progressive Dems Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, either. These Squad members breezed through their re-election bids, showing that their progressive platform resonates with their local audiences, even if it leaves others scratching their heads.

Debbie Dingell: Michigan’s Unbreakable Streak: Debbie Dingell will be serving Michigan for yet another term. Apparently, the Dingell dynasty continues to endure, with Debbie stepping in for her sixth round of legislative games. Some traditions, it seems, refuse to budge.

Kirsten Gillibrand: Third Time’s a Charm: Over in New York, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand secured a third term in office. Yes, even with all the Republican momentum nationwide, Gillibrand managed to keep her seat and will continue to be New York’s representative on the national stage.

Henry Cuellar: Charges? What Charges? Finally, there’s Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas. Facing federal charges for corruption and bribery? No problem! Cuellar beat out Navy vet Jay Furman, winning over voters who clearly weren’t phased by the allegations of raking in $600K from foreign entities. Mark your calendars, though: Cuellar’s trial is set for April, so his future in Congress might be the shortest of all.

So, here we are: still saddled with some of the biggest and creepiest names in the Democrat stable. The country may be tilting right, but in these districts, the blue tide is as relentless as ever – which is the only good news that the Dems got after the elections.
