When it comes to cybersecurity, Donald Trump’s campaign seems to have a few too many open ports. In a move that looks to be straight out of a hacker’s playbook, Iranian cyber operatives have allegedly wormed their way into the Trump campaign’s communications, snagging a treasure trove of documents that could make even the most seasoned IT professional break out in a cold sweat.
It all started with a Microsoft report flagging that Iranian hackers, reportedly linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, made a successful breach into the email account of a “high-ranking official” within Trump’s campaign in June when Trump was deciding on his running mate. Naturally, the first question on everyone’s mind was: What juicy data did they manage to snag?
What did they get?
The answer: internal communications and a research dossier on Trump’s running mate, JD Vance. Yep, you read that right – Vance’s “potential vulnerabilities” were just sitting there like unsecured Wi- Fi, ripe for the picking.
These hackers didn’t just grab a few emails; they hauled in documents ranging from Trump’s legal strategies to deep dives into the campaign’s inner workings. It sounds like they bypassed the campaign’s antivirus and installed their own backdoor.
Leftists at Politico, always on the lookout for a hot scoop to embarrass Trump or take him out of politics for good, started receiving these goodies from an anonymous account named “Robert.” When asked where these digital files came from, Robert offered some sage advice: “I suggest you don’t be curious about where I got them from.” Translation: If you want to keep getting the goodies, don’t ask too many questions.
Democrats remain safe from computer villains.
But here’s the kicker – while Trump’s campaign is getting its firewall fried, the Democratic Party is sitting pretty, untouched by Tehran’s digital antics. Not a single report suggests Kamala Harris or Biden’s team were targeted. It’s almost as if Iran is playing tech support for the Democrats, cleaning up their security bugs while planting a few extra in Trump’s system. And I’m sure that these efforts are not coordinated at all between the two Trump-hating groups (wink, wink).
All this comes on the heels of reports that Iranian hackers were previously involved in voter intimidation tactics during the 2020 election, even masquerading as members of the Proud Boys. Apparently, they’ve upgraded from phishing emails to full-scale political hacks. And let’s not forget, Iran’s ongoing grudge against Trump and their plans to assassinate him, especially after the Democratic-supporting assassin failed in his attempt.
So, as Trump’s campaign scrambles to patch its vulnerabilities, one can’t help but wonder: how many Democrats are in on the plan to help Iran rewrite the election code and help the Democrats debug their way to victory?
