Welcome to the new era of Michigan politics, where Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has taken a page straight out of George Orwell’s “1984.” Benson, in her infinite wisdom, has decided that the biggest threat to democracy isn’t election fraud or foreign interference, but your Aunt Sally posting on Facebook about a change in polling locations.

Yes, citizens, according to Jocelyn, it’s your patriotic duty to snitch on your neighbors for spreading “misinformation.” Benson’s recent initiative, outlined in this document, urges Michiganders to report any “misleading or inaccurate” information about elections. She’s even set up a handy dandy email address, misinformation@michigan.gov, so you can easily drop a dime on your fellow citizens. Because nothing says “land of the free” like encouraging people to inform on each other for wrongthink.

Another document from Benson’s office says that misinformation is “the most potentially damaging threat to our democracy” and says it’s “hacking the minds of American citizens.”

To find the truth, Benson points to leftist websites like FactCheck.org, PolitiFact, and Snopes for fact- checking. LOL.

AG Nessel goes after Michigan resident for social media posts.

If Benson is our Big Brother, then Attorney General Dana Nessel is the Prosecutor of Democrat Truth, ready to bring the hammer down on those spreading the Democrats’ perceived notion of “misinformation” including her current target from Ross Township, near Battle Creek.

This poor resident dared to use their first amendment rights to question the timing of a polling location change. What did they get for their troubles? A cease and desist letter from Nessel’s office, signed by Robbin N. Liddell, the Chief of the AG’s Criminal Trials Division.

Ross Twp. resident faces baseless accusations as state officials misinterpret election law to silence free speech

Do you support individual military members being able to opt out of getting the COVID vaccine?

By completing the poll, you agree to receive emails from SteveGruber.com, occasional offers from our partners and that you've read and agree to our privacy policy and legal statement.

The letter, first reported by 910AM host Justin Barclay Tuesday morning was also shared on the Midwesterner website. It accuses the Ross Twp. resident of violating Michigan election law, specifically for spreading “misleading or false” information online. It says that MCL 168.932(a) prohibits what they posted but it really doesn’t. Nowhere does the law mention that expressing an opinion or questioning official actions qualifies as criminal conduct.

The law cited by the AG’s office says “A person shall not attempt, by means of bribery, menace, or other corrupt means or device, either directly or indirectly, to influence an elector in giving his or her vote, or to deter the elector from, or interrupt the elector in giving his or her vote at any election held in this state.”

So although the law cited has absolutely nothing to do with the Ross Twp resident’s post, the anonymous Ross Twp. resident still took down their social media posts anyway. And who can blame them when there are out of control tyrannical Michigan Democratic women after them who yield great powers to incarcerate whomever they want?

Besides the fact that Michigan election laws don’t quash free speech, we also have a first amendment guarantee that Nessel doesn’t seem to give a crap about. Nevertheless, the lovely letter from Nessel’s Truth Squad enforcers ended with “failure to comply with this notice may result in criminal prosecution.”

When it comes to “free” speech, it’s only free if it aligns with the official narrative of the Democratic party.

Detroit News joins the truth squad frenzy.

Not to be outdone, the Detroit Free Press (yes “free” is still in their name for some reason) has launched its own initiative to combat misinformation, partnering with the Center for Media Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin.

They’ve created a “community reporting tool”, inviting the public to submit any questionable information they encounter online. Clearly, the best way to ensure the accuracy of information is to rely on the keen investigative skills of internet users.

I can come up with some other creative names for their tool:

• Neighborhood Compliance Tracker
• Citizen Watchdog Interface
• Democratic Whistleblower System
• Neighbor Surveillance Hub
• Comrade Compliance Console

The “Free” Press wants you to report social media posts, photos, videos, or even articles that seem suspicious. Their approach? Gather these reports, look for common themes, and then “set the record straight.” What kind of insane world does this media outlet live in where they have decided to act as arbiters of truth instead of objective reporters of the news?

The truth police: ensuring democracy one report at a time.

The Democratic duo of Benson and Nessel, along with the enthusiastic support of the DetroitFreePress, are spearheading efforts to combat the scourge of what they call “misinformation” which is just information that they don’t agree with.

So beware: the Truth Squad is watching, ready to pounce on any dissenting voices. In their crusade against free speech, they want to scare you into silence with voluntary censorship. But don’t be afraid. You have something they don’t have on their side: the law and the Constitution.

In a state where the motto “If you see something, say something” has morphed into “If you see something you don’t like, tattle,” we’re witnessing the birth of a new age of Orwellian oversight by the tyrannical leftists in Michigan where snitching is the new civic duty.
