The Democratic National Convention 2024 in Chicago on Monday quickly became a venue where “We love you!” was code for “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.” The opening night was a prime example of political doublespeak as the Democrats, led by none other than former Speaker of the House and top coup plotter against Biden, Nancy Pelosi, enthusiastically chanted “We love Joe!” with the zeal of a sugar-high toddler. The kicker? They’re the very ones who gave him the boot.
Despite the sea of “We Love Joe” signs waving enthusiastically throughout the crowd, it was hard to miss Angry Joe during his speech. His frustration practically leaped off the screen. If you watch the speech on mute, the tension is even more obvious. To add insult to injury, the Dems handed the old man the day-one speaking slot more than likely just to get him off the stage as quickly as possible and focus on the business at hand – defeating Orange Man bad and pretending Kamala is the one to do it.
Yes, poor Joey got the boot from running for president again because he could no longer lead the Democrats’ main mission: keeping Donald J. Trump out of the White House. And let’s be real, the Dems will stop at nothing to achieve that goal – even giving Biden the heave-ho from the Resolute Desk (but not until January, of course).
Biden’s final bow.
In his swan song at the Democratic National Convention, (you can read the transcript here), President Biden made his final pitch as the crowd chanted his name for the cameras.
Biden waxed poetic about the so-called progress under his watch, from economic recovery to healthcare reforms, but let’s be honest, the baton was yanked from his hand and passed to Kamala Harris, who he now insists is the one to carry on his “legacy.” It’s almost as if he’s trying to convince himself as much as the crowd that she’s up to the task.
With friends like Harris and Pelosi, who needs enemies?
Citing Harris as the first Black woman and South Asian VP, Biden said, “She’s good.” He went on to talk about choosing her as VP when he became president, saying, “We’ve become close friends.”
Biden didn’t hold back when it came to slamming Trump, recalling the Charlottesville hoax and the January 6th insurrection that helped propel old man Biden into office. But the underlying message of the evening was clear: Biden’s out, and the party has chosen Harris as the new standard-bearer, whether Biden really wants to leave or not. As he bid farewell, Biden struck a note of forced optimism, thanking the crowd for sticking with him, even as the political winds and his “close friends” blew him off the stage.
Ice cream and beach visits.
What’s next for our dear old Joe? Well, he’s not doing much of anything these days. Now that the jig is up about his competency, he’s basically been on vacay. But it looks like the Dems obviously made a deal with him to let him stay in office until January 20th.
So it looks like Biden will keep enjoying his taxpayer-funded lifestyle, indulging in ice cream, hanging out at the beach, and fondly recalling the days when his party still had some use for him.
