Imagine the horror of seeing a Supreme Court Justice express his patriotism in a way that doesn’t involve burning an American flag. According to the New York Times, as reported by the Daily Signal, Justice Samuel Alito is guilty of such a provocative act. The Times, in its infinite wisdom, reported that Alito had the audacity to fly an “Appeal to Heaven” flag last year at his vacation home in New Jersey.

Judge Alito is an insurrectionist, the Left says.

Headlines screamed, “Another Provocative Flag Was Flown at Another Alito Home.” This shocking news followed a prior “scandal” where Alito flew an upside-down American flag outside his house in early 2021, clearly marking him as a violent insurrectionist in cahoots with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot participants. Or so we’re led to believe.

Alito clarified that the upside-down flag, a traditional signal of distress, was related to a dispute between his wife and their neighbors over yard signs. It’s a personal symbol for when things are less than stellar. If you can’t think of countless reasons for personal distress in 2021, you must have been living in a parallel universe.

An “Appeal to Heaven” flag was at the Capitol on January 6th.

The Times, undeterred by historical facts, noted that the “Appeal to Heaven” flag was seen at the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Guess what? So were cell phones. And American flags. And t-shirts. And jeans. And all sorts of other stuff by INDIVIDUALS who were there under the horrid auspices of FREEDOM OF SPEECH and ASSEMBLY.

Cue the ominous music. The Left is always around to criticize everything their political enemies do. And if they can, they’d like ban everything they do as well.

What the Left failed to mention is that the “Appeal to Heaven” flag dates back to the Revolutionary War and symbolizes the colonists’ fight against British oppression.

But who needs historical accuracy when you have a narrative to push?

What is the meaning of the flag?

For those needing a refresher: the “Appeal to Heaven” flag was designed in 1775 for ships serving the united colonies. It’s a symbol of the right to revolution, rooted in the belief that our rights are endowed by our Creator. This is History 101 (even Wikipedia knows the truth), but apparently, it’s news to the graduates of our elite institutions.

The Left seems to despise anything that evokes traditional American values unless it’s repurposed for their own agendas. If you dare to fly a historic flag that combines patriotism and religious sentiment, prepare for a media-driven witch hunt. And if the flag was seen at the Capitol on January 6th then… whoa!! That’s a scandal!

The Left just hates conservative justices – that’s the only thing this is about.

Let’s not forget the broader context here. This flag scandal is just another tactic in the Left’s power play to undermine the Supreme Court. Remember the baseless attacks on Justice Clarence Thomas? When those didn’t stick, they moved on to Alito, hoping to force his recusal from key decisions. They are relentless on their attacks on their political enemies – as evidenced by their Trump Derangement Syndrome that they just can’t shake.

The narrative spun by Democrat media allies is transparent: any symbol of traditional American patriotism is suspect unless it’s appropriated for a left-wing cause.

For them, flags really don’t have any meaning at all especially the American flag.
For them, burning the flag is a badge of honor when it suits their cause like during the George Floyd rioting and anti-Israel protests.

So, while The New York Times continues its quest to paint patriotic Americans as insurrectionists, remember the real scandal. Our most powerful institutions have decided that being an American is un-American. But don’t buy into their narrative. Be like George Washington and appeal to heaven.
