Even though the Democrats have and are spending a gazillion dollars trying to push their EVs on everyone and get rid of gas-powered cars, they haven’t won the fight yet. Realistically, they should know that people aren’t going to give up their gas-powered cars and buy $60K EVs.
Realistically, we can’t drive an EV where and when we want to and have any reasonable confidence of getting it charged. Realistically, they don’t perform well in hot or cold weather. Realistically, they have many safety concerns. Realistically they come with higher insurance and repair costs. Realistically, their disposal can harm the environment. Realistically, we don’t have the grid capacity to support them. Realistically, the materials we need for them (lithium, cobalt and nickel) come from other countries and are mined by poor workers in dangerous conditions and the supply of the materials is finite.
I could go on and on…
Reality is not a place where the Democrats live. They live in a world where they like to dictate rules and redistribute our taxpayer dollars and that’s all this is about.
However, cracks are emerging in their BS EV dream. There’s the UAW vs. automaker fight which at its base has to do with EVs and the future of the autoworker and whether they even have jobs in the future.
In fact, it has SO MUCH to do with the loss of workers that there’s actually a bill in the Michigan Senate (approved) to create a MichiganWorks-style office for autoworkers, construction workers and energy workers who are displaced by the transition to electric vehicles, wind and solar power. Yes, they know that people are going to lose their jobs from their EV and green energy dreams. But they really don’t care.
There’s also West Virginia Senator Manchin pushing back against Biden with his “Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act” to counter the Biden administration’s radical environmental agenda and executive overreach.
Senator Manchin said in a statement, “We cannot allow the EPA to continue to impose oppressive and careless regulations that increase our dependence on foreign adversaries like China and make everyday necessities more expensive for Americans and their families. I waited in line for gas in the 70s because America was too reliant on foreign oil, and I refuse to risk one day waiting in line for a Chinese battery. This bipartisan legislation would rescind this federal overreach and protect access to traditional, affordable vehicles. As Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, I will continue to lead the fight against EPA’s radical climate agenda to protect our energy, national and economic security.”
And, of course, there is former Prez. Trump who is always pushing back against the Democrats’ EV dreams – and so are most of the other Republican presidential candidates.
Ultimately, I think we (the gas-guzzling drivers) will win this fight – but we’ll have to suffer along the way to our victory as we battle against the insane progressive Democrats.
