It’s been pretty much the general consensus among many of us that there were undercover FBI agents and/or other law enforcement officers at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. There have also been allegations of other people, including Ray Epps [1], working with the Biden administration to instigate a riot and provoke violence in Congress.
Now we hear from an attorney for January 6th defendants alleging that there were 40 undercover law enforcement officers amid the protesters on that day participating in surveillance work.
According to Just the News [2], an attorney for a January 6th defendant said that “law enforcement agencies had at least 40 undercover informants at the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot engaging in surveillance work.”
This allegation came out on Wednesday in a court filing by attorney Roger Roots, who represents Dominic Pezzola, a member of the Proud Boys. Pezzola is on trial on charges including entering the U.S. Capitol, obstructing an official proceeding, destruction of government property and illegally accessing a restricted area.
The federal government has admitted to having eight FBI confidential human sources that were embedded with the Proud Boys on January 6th. This appeared in the court filing [3] by Pezzola’s attorney to compel the disclosure of all confidential human sources of Homeland Security, who they allege to have been handling and running confidential human sources on January 6th – approximately 19 of them, including 13 undercover plain-clothes DC Metro Police (MPD) agents.
Roots said, “Some of these undercover Metro officers marched with the Proud Boy march. And some appear to have played roles of instigators, in that they are seen on body-worn videos chanting ‘Go! Go!,’ ‘Stop the Steal!,’ and ‘Whose house? Our house!’ on Jan. 6. Others generally followed demonstrators toward the Capitol.”
That doesn’t sound like monitoring or surveillance or collecting information. That sounds like participation and helping to instigate violence to reach a specific law enforcement (and political) goal.
