Most people in this country felt sympathy for the victims of the Nashville shooting. Parents who lost kids and other loved ones who lost family members deserve our kindness and understanding.
But one group that takes an opposite approach is the left, a large part, if election tallies are any indication, of our current country.
Left wing writer Mike Wise said, “I understand their outrage against an intolerant state that brainwashes children through religious indoctrination.” He’s speaking of “understanding” violence against innocent children and referring to a private, not state, Christian school.
“Progressive” writer Dave Pakman, “Very surprising that there would be a mass shooting at a Christian school, given that lack of prayer is often blamed for these horrible events,” he wrote. “Is it possible they weren’t praying enough, or correctly, despite being a Christian school?” Sarcasm towards victimized families in the wake of a mass shooting. Nice guys, eh?
“Thank god Tennessee protected the children from the so-called horrors of drag and gender affirming care so they can be shot up at school by an AR-15 instead,” hard left attorney Alejandra Caraballo said. Conflating those issues makes no sense. But the left doesn’t care as long as they can take a cheap shot at grieving parents.
And the recent press secretary to the Dem governor of Arizona called for gun violence against “transphobes.” Ah yes, oppose the barbaric and nonsensical concept of gender transformation and a prominent Dem wants you dead.
Curtis Houck of the Media Research Center comments on the leftist reaction to the shooting, “So, there’s already a bias and lack of both compassion and knowledge about the victims of this school run by a church in the right-leaning denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America,” he told Fox. “But along with the proximity bias, the coverage has been horrendous on account of the fact that the victims represent the kind of worldview that the left views as backward and hateful and whose very existence contributes to the suffering of groups they hold dear — supporters of abortion, the LGBTQ community, traditional views on sex, etc.”
Now you might say, this is only the press or a minority of the left. Wrong. A majority of American voters backed a candidate in 2020 whose supporters advocate just these views and are led culturally, intellectually, and politically by just the kind of people who mock dead children.
What are the wider national implications? Do you want to live in a country with these people? Do they share your most basic values? I’m not talking about mere political differences here. I’m talking about the kind of individuals who make fun of murdered kids and think it’s fine to shoot people based on their religion. Have anything in common with their worldview, anything at all?
If not, and we’ve written about this before, perhaps those in America who think differently than those who giggle over murdered nine year olds should seek a peaceful constitutional arrangement to divorce ourselves from the vile hard left in our midst. And I’m not even factoring in the Trump indictment and the maelstrom it will bring.
Call it a national divorce, giving the West Coast the boot, call it what you will. But if we don’t share the most basic values with our supposed countrymen then we’re not sharing a country we’re just inhabiting the same real estate. That is not a recipe for national union for anyone, right or left. Ergo, the territorial status quo must change. As the Bible, that foundational document of the West so hated by the left, counsels us, as did Abraham Lincoln, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” That kind of government cannot endure.
