News comes out of Chicago Tuesday night that incompetent racist incumbent Dem Mayor Lori Lightfoot was rejected by over 80 percent of voters in the Dem mayoral primary. The leading candidate, who will run in an April runoff, campaigned on law and order.
“Regardless of tonight’s outcome, we fought the right fights and we put this city on a better path,” Lightfoot said Tuesday night. But during Lightfoot’s tenure murders in Chicago rose to the highest number in 25 years in 2021, outpacing New York City and Los Angeles.
“There is hope for my home city yet,” wrote Jonathan Turley, a noted academic and criminal defense attorney. “Lori Lightfoot is out. The greatest potential improvement for the city since 1900 when the direction of the Chicago river was reversed.”
Another incompetent woke Dem mayor, LaToya Cantell of New Orleans, is a facing a serious recall effort. New Orleans had 266 homicides in 2022 — a 116% increase from 2019. Carjackings rose by 165% in the two-year period of her administration.
“Right now our mayor doesn’t love New Orleans so the citizens and the residents stood up,” Eileen Carter of the No LaToya recall campaign told press. “We’re taking our city back, and we’re gonna save New Orleans.”
A spox for the embattled mayor labeled the recall a “Republican-backed maneuver by people with an agenda” to “undermine and discredit the first black woman mayor of New Orleans.” That old tune. Lightfoot went there too. A lot of good it did her.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams, himself a former high ranking law enforcement officer, can’t seem to stop spiraling crime, homeless issues, and economic decline.
In the nation’s capital a runaway City Council is determined to make the city a comfortable haven for criminals by tossing away any semblance of law enforcement and punishment.
As Republicans point out on a regular basis, these examples are no coincidence. In fact, given the holiday atmosphere for perps in liberal cities, career criminals have become a Dem constituency. Are beleaguered urban voters getting hip to this? Is Chicago a warning to woke mayors? Maybe.
The need to vote on race and gender, as opposed to qualifications and merit, is so ingrained in Dem urban voters it is tempting to wish them ill on the basis that they’re only getting what they voted for.
However, the better angels in our natures recall that NYC voters revolted against PC incompetence in 1993 and ushered in the Republican Giuliani era, a time of renaissance for the City that only really ended with the election of the Deblasio administration in 2013.
Thus, far left mayors could be voted out of office thirty years ago. Can it be done now, when the woke legions have conquered so much ground in three decades? Chicago says perhaps, though the next mayor will be a law and order sounding Dem. He’s not terribly woke on crime issues, but still a Dem.
But the real test will be if voters in places like San Francisco, Philadelphia, and DC rise to the challenge by tossing their Dem mayors and their criminal constituencies under the bus. Smart money says they won’t.
