Normally I’m a big fan of Jim Carville, in the professional sense. A brilliant field general for the Dems, a Cajun, and a former Marine, Carville brings a sense of irreverent fight to the game of politics that can be a joy to behold.
Not woke either, he has more than once castigated that wing of the Dem Party. But sometimes he goes off the reservation and lets his mouth get ahead of his brain. There is a recent example.
When some Republicans heckled Biden and his Flowers for Algernon style delivery at the SOTU, Carville offered this up. “I tell people I have the equivalent of a Ph.D. in white trashology, and you saw real white trash on display,” the guy told MSNBC’s Ari Melber on “The Beat” in an interview on Wednesday.
He added, the “level of white trashdom in the Republican Party is just staggering.” I think that’s what mental health pros call projection.
Be that as it may, one thing stands out. It’s the amazing double standard for that type of line. It’s a racial slur of a pretty brutal variety. The equivalent would be to use a horrible slur, a word that is repulsive to any civilized person, against a black American.
If Republicans used that equivalent the roof would come down on their heads and rightfully so. But the Bad Ronald of the liberal airwaves uses a slur like that and everyone goes ho hum. Welcome to the media culture as constructed by the left.
The worst insults are just fine deployed against Republicans. However, let one Republican utter a word not deemed acceptable by the Thought Police and the cry is for their head. And by the way, Jim Carville is in many ways a helluva character. But I’m not sure he’s going grouse shooting at Balmoral with the King anytime soon. So, who’s white trash? And that’s an interesting term from the political version of Amos Moses. Apologies to Jerry Reed.
Then there’s this. For the second time in about a week a New Jersey Republican member of a city council was shot dead. If the victims were Dems major media would be running stories about Republican death squads roaming the Pine Barrons. Roberto D’Aubuisson, call your office.
But Republicans? Ho hum. Move along. Nothing to see here. Hate crimes? How can it be when the media itself hates Republicans? Notice that Orwellian tag is never used when the victim doesn’t fit a woke narrative.
One rule for covering Dems, another for covering Republicans. It’s open season for racial slurs and murder as long as the targets are not Dems. Expect more of it leading up to the 2024 presidential election. It’s going to get sporty, very sporty.
