Sarah Palin gets a bum rap. Nobody could be as dumb as she supposedly is, unless you count AOC. Actually, unless you count an awful lot of Dems. Okay fine, many people are really as dim as Palin is portrayed in the media.
She was a good governor of Alaska and her problem in 2008 as the GOP veep nominee was that her campaign energy considerably outshown presidential nominee John McCain. So the McCain people have spent bunches of time since trashing her at every opportunity. The liberal press and pop culture have played along. To her credit Palin has not backed down.
And I will admit a bias for Palin because she is, well, cute. A recent Brittney Spearsesque pic of her was certainly intriguing and shows the ravages of time have been very kind to her. Very kind indeed. But after losing two House races last year she comes to the 2024 presidential race with some counsel that may be taken with a grain of salt.
She tells DeSantis not to run. She’s for Trump and wants to be his veep. Oh dear, how do you solve a problem like Sarah? How do you unsubscribe to yesterday’s news?
“DeSantis doesn’t need to [run]. I envision him as our president someday but not right now,” Palin told Newsmax on Tuesday. “He should stay governor for a bit longer. He’s young, you know. He has decades ahead of him where he can be our president.” Interesting, as DeSantis has been governor for much longer than Palin was governor before she ran for veep. She was never reelected. He was, convincingly.
“When you talk about the specific people, the individual people who are looking at putting their hat in the ring… they got a lot of guts thinking they’re gonna go up against Trump.” Guts is a good thing, right? Palin has shown it. You’d think she’d respect it in others.
I personally prefer DeSantis and would support almost any Republican but Trump. However, I would vote for Trump against any Democrat.
As for decades to go for DeSantis, well, the nation’s problems need dealing with now and they won’t be solved by Joe Biden or by a former president who is hated by half the country and has, shall we say, intense personal issues. It’s DeSantis’ time. That much is clear.
However, if Palin were talking about just the presidential race she would have more credibility than she garnered after she added this tidbit on Trump’s veep choice, “Trump needs to choose somebody who, like him, has nothing to lose. What more can they do to that person personally or verbal attacks or anything else on family?” she said. “That person has been through the wringer, so they know what they’re getting into. And that person then can just focus on doing what’s right for the people.” Gee, who could she be talking about?
Though the populist Palin would make an excellent Secretary of Education in a DeSantis administration. Her culture warrior talents would be put to good use and populists are spot on in regards to most educational issues. Plus, it would drive the left insane. Always a value added benefit.
As for her advice concerning the Republican presidential nomination next year, we’d advise her to stay out of it and support the nominee no matter who it is. It’s her only shot at regained relevance.
