There’s a lot of great Republicans running for Congress this year. But one stands out of the pack. One, by his views and background, is indicative of the kind of person America needs to lead Congress and thus the nation out of the fever swamps of the Biden administration. That candidate is Derrick Van Orden, a Republican running in the Wisconsin 3rd congressional district.
I’ve had the opportunity to speak with him on several occasions and this guy is the real thing. As a former political consultant I’ve seen the fakes. Not Van Orden. He’s actually a leader.
As Americans it’s safe to say we’ve had about enough of airheads and professional politicians only seeking personal gain. As he’s done in uniform and out, Van Orden is different. The man is committed to service.
He joined the Navy at 18. He served in uniform for 26 years. Van Orden retired as a Navy SEAL Senior Chief with 5 combat deployments to danger spots all over the world. He continued his service with multiple combat tours to Afghanistan and Iraq. Also, he served in the Horn of Africa, Asia, Europe, and South and Central America.
And that’s all well and good. But what does he think? How will he vote when the fit hits the shan? Let’s find out. These are his views on issues:
Border security: “Without borders, we are by definition, not a nation. We must regain control of our borders to keep our nation safe. We must fight to fix the humanitarian crisis and disaster Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi have created at the border.”
Abortion: “As a Navy SEAL veteran who has lost friends in both training and combat, and as a paramedic, father, and grandfather, I have a unique understanding of how precious life is and why it should be protected. We must respect and cherish life.”
Term limits: “I support term limits on all legislators, ensuring that being elected to Congress remains an act of public service, not a way to enrich one’s self.”
The economy: “I’ll work to stop Democrat tax hikes and make sure more of your hard earned money remains where it should be: in your pocket.”
But it goes farther than that. What is at his core? How does he view the promise that is America? What is his commitment to liberty?
Van Orden: “As Americans, we are the recipients and custodians of two of the most beautifully written and powerful documents that the world has ever seen; the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. We must work together to ensure that our rights, as enumerated in these papers are not infringed upon.”
That says it better than I could. So watch the Wisconsin 3rd. Support this SEAL veteran and Republican leader any way you can. If we win there, with Van Orden, and indeed take a House majority, it will herald a new day in DC. That is something America desperately needs and deserves.
