Two crazy bookends of American politics, the conspiratorial right and the hard left, have inadvertently joined in a chorus, as they do more than often, in a response to the death of Queen Elizabeth II that is filled with graceless invective and loony history. Though, one must admit, the left has been more vocal than the right.
The crazy right has, on social media, indulged in their fantasies by calling the Queen a drug dealer, a pedophile, and, yes, a space lizard. All sorts of absurd and malevolent designs and motivations have been attributed to the House of Windsor including infant cannibalism, global hegemony (if only), and secret Jewish ancestry. Nobody of any note or intelligence takes this stuff seriously and thus it has been judiciously relegated to the backwaters of comment. If only the left’s lunacy was also ignored.
But given the hard left’s dominance of media, bizarre historical analysis and vicious ad hominem attacks on the crown and Her Majesty have been given coverage.
“Journalists are tasked with putting legacies into full context, so it is entirely appropriate to examine the queen and her role in the devastating impact of continued colonialism,” Racist writer and former ESPN host Jemele Hill tweeted Thursday. Really? You mean the same Queen who oversaw the dissolution of the British Empire?
“I heard the chief monarch of a thieving raping genocidal empire is finally dying,” Carnegie Mellon University professor Uju Anya tweeted on Thursday morning. “May her pain be excruciating.” Again, what empire? America, gone. India, gone. African and Asian British colonies, gone perhaps too soon for their own good.
She added, “If anyone expects me to express anything but disdain for the monarch who supervised a government that sponsored the genocide that massacred and displaced half my family and the consequences of which those alive today are still trying to overcome, you can keep wishing upon a star.” Her family? Even if true, does the displacement of her family constitute genocide? Hardly. Here is a person who wallows in a grudge and has decided to blame it on a constitutional monarch whose duties do not allow execution of policy of any sort. Bloody hell lass, pick up a book.
“The way I wish newspapers would write: ‘Colonizers lost one of their most beloved foot soldiers as Queen Elizabeth II, 96, mostly known for f***s**t and racism, has died,'” Huffington Post lunatic Stephen Crockett Jr. tweeted. As for the expletive, can you decipher it? I can’t. Though, in our defense, it’s probably spelled wrong by the childish writer.
“Black and brown people around the world who were subject to horrendous cruelties and economic deprivation under British colonialism are allowed to have feelings about Queen Elizabeth,” Washington Post leftist Karen Attiah bellowed. “After all, they were her ‘subjects’ too.” Does she have an inkling of actual history at her disposal? Does she know that the voluntary association of the British Commonwealth has over fifty members, many of them African and Asian states?
Not to mention that the British Empire was a great force for good for centuries, bringing the light of civilization, education, and public works to peoples the world over. To deny that is taking the “What have the Romans ever done for us?” bit more than a tad too far.
But you won’t hear that empirical rendering of history from the abovementioned Bolsheviks, who keep their heads in the sand and nurse imaginary grievances. They stand as a testament to the rabid gracelessness of the left and to their unbelievable ignorance of actual history.
