Yes, today is the day. It’s the day of reckoning for Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY). Today is the day that primary voters in Wyoming will choose Harriet Hageman to represent them and finally give Trump- hating Liz Cheney the old heave-ho. The boot. An eviction notice. The bum’s rush.
Because of her Trump Derangement Syndrome, Cheney went from being a respected pro-military conservative who was often sought out for her national security views to a loathed and ridiculed member of congress.
Cheney had dedicated herself to removing Trump from from office after the January 6th attack on the Capitol, starting with her vote of impeachment against Trump, and she has continued that dedication with her leadership role in the January 6th hearings.
In the past, from 2017 to 2021, Cheney voted in line with Trump’s positions about 93% of the time but following the attack on the Capitol, she decided that Trump was now a target of removal. She said Trump “lit the flame” of the riot and did nothing to stop it and “there has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath.”
Cheney has been totally tone deaf to the temperature of the republican party’s base (including in her own state) and even said she intended to be the “leader, one of the leaders, in a fight to help restore our party.”
That’s not gonna happen. She’s not even going to be a leader in Wyoming, the state she represents, by the end of the night.
Cheney is going to fail spectacularly in her reelection bid. In the University of Wyoming’s Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center (WYSAC) polling conducted July 25th through August 6th, Cheney was losing to Hageman by almost 30 points. And that was before the raid in Mar-a-Lago – which will most likely drive republicans to make sure to show up and vote against her to make a bigly statement with their vote.
No amount of meddling in the election by democrats switching parties to vote for her – or ads by her father Dick – are going to save her. Not even an Al Franken endorsement.
Cheney will be one of the last dominoes to fall and a fruitful Trump accomplishment in his effort to get rid of every House republican who voted to impeach him. They will all be gone except for two remaining ones who are left to run in November’s general election.
What are Lizzie’s future plans? I’m sure a CNN gig is in her future. And we would all LOVE to see her run for president against Trump.
But in the meantime, she has nothing to lose – so she’ll go all-i for the Jan 6th clown show until she is gone. Her famous last words before the closing of the last hearing were “see you in September” and we all know the Trump-hating congress has more tricks up their selves to deliver to the American people before the November midterm elections.
