Following the January 6th Capitol Riots, the Democrats have seized every opportunity to portray conservatives as terrorists. It doesn’t matter that the left played a significant part in the riots, all that matters is the narrative being told – which is that January 6th was just as bad as 9/11.
Just take a look at some of the narratives being told by the media. Writer George Will hoped the riots would be, “burned into the American mind as firmly as 9/11 because it was that scale of a shock to the system.” And that’s not all as senior White House correspondent for the Huffington Posts, S.V. Date, dared to defend Will’s comments by saying the riots were 1000 percent worse than 9/11.
While absurd, the Democrats were hoping their reimagining of the events on Jan. 6th would lead to a commission being formed. Luckily, the investigation was shot down in the Senate just a few days ago as many wish to move past that embarrassing day.
As for their remarks about 9/11, the sister of a pilot killed on that horrible day, Debra Burlingame, wasn’t about to let the left tarnish the memories of what took place on 9/11. Instead of taking to Twitter like President Biden or his VP Kamala Harris, Burlingame wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal.
In the piece, Burlingame writes, “The attempt to reconfigure the ‘domestic terrorist’ narrative to fit the horrifying story of Sept. 11 is profoundly disheartening. These two events are fundamentally different in nature, scope, and consequences. Mentioning them in the same breath not only diminishes the horror of what happened on 9/11; it tells a false story to the generation of Americans who are too young to remember that day nearly 20 years ago.”
Burlingame doesn’t stop there as she completely destroys the narrative of the Democrats. She also mentions her lost brother who was murdered while struggling with terrorists aboard his plane. And for those that still believe the riots and 9/11 were somehow the same – it should be noted that over 3,000 children lost family members that day. Not to mention, there was roughly 19,000 human remains scattered all over Manhattan from the aftermath of the Twin Towers.
As for what happened to Congress on Jan. 6th, they were able to resume council that same night, so there is in no way even the slightest comparison between these two days. But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t an attack on democracy. Burlingame suggested, “It is deeply offensive and sad that the brutal and harrowing memories of the worst terrorist attack in American history are being deployed by political partisans. They are using 9/11 not as an example of what the American people endured and overcame together, but explicitly to divide, to stoke hatred, and to further a political agenda aimed at stigmatizing the other party and marginalizing ordinary Americans from participating in the political process. That is the real threat to democracy.”
