Democrats in both the House and Senate are reportedly constructing legislation to be released on Thursday to pack the Supreme Court, adding four justices.
The Intercept [1] reported, “The bill would add four seats to the high court, bringing the total to 13, from the current 9. The number of justices on the Court has fluctuated widely throughout the course of the nation’s history. Republicans currently hold 6 seats, while Democrats hold just 3 after the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg and the quick confirmation of Justice Amy Coney Barrett.”
The bill is reportedly being led by Rep. Jerry Nadler, Rep. Hank Johnson, and Rep. Mondair Jones in the house. In the Senate, it is being led by Sen. Ed Markey.
The move to pack the courts effectively ends the balance of power by skewing the judicial branch toward the left. The standard of 9 justices has maintained the same since 1869.
During his campaign, Biden refused to answer if he was for packing the Supreme Court, saying “You’ll know my opinion on court packing when the election is over.” It looks like we have our answer.
