While being interviewed by a One America News correspondent on Saturday, one of the big scoops of the weekend happened when former Georgia REP Vernon Jones told her, “I’ll be going to Iowa, New Hampshire…and other places… stay tuned.”
So it looks like Jones could be throwing his hat in the ring as a possible presidential candidate for 2024.
Even though some in Georgia think Jones might be looking at the Georgia Secretary of State job or even be considering running for Governor, his comments at CPAC lead me to believe that he has bigger aspirations than that if he’s going to be headed to Iowa.
In looking for a presidential candidate, there are several things that we are looking for: trust (bigly!), conservatism, the ability to inspire as a good speaker, and an America First agenda.
Former Democratic Georgia State REP and now a Republican, Vernon Jones, who is a 60-year-old black engaging speaker, seems to have all of those qualities.
A former democrat who officially became a Republican on January 6th of this year, Jones has been a good messenger for Trumpism, conservatism and the evils of the Democrat party.
He Tweeted on January 6th, “Moments ago, I announced that I am officially joining the Republican Party. Now more than ever, the Republican Party is in desperate need of leaders that know how to fight. I know how to fight.”
Jones, who endorsed Trump for President while he was still a democrat, gave a great speech at the virtual RNC convention, in August of 2020. He endorsed Trump because of Trump’s handling of the economy, his support for historically black colleges and his criminal justice initiatives.
Trump-supporting Jones said that Donald Trump “has done more for us (blacks) in 47 months than Joe Biden has done in 47 years in pubic service.”
Jones has also condemned Biden for not holding Antifa and Black Lives Matter accountable for their rioting and the burning of black businesses. He said, “More black lives have been killed as the result of these riots and looting and shooting than from police shootings of unarmed black men but no one asks him (Biden) about that.”
Jones continued, “Joe Biden and the liberal party do not give a damn about black people. Donald Trump showed them what it was like to earn the black vote. Joe Biden has a record of failure and Donald J. Trump has a record of success.”
Even when Jones was a Democrat, he said he was a “Conservative Democrat” who believed in tough immigration laws, fiscal responsibility and he supported gun rights.
Vernon would definitely be an interesting and exciting addition to a Republican presidential primary and the kind of a “fighter” that the voters are looking for.
