FNC: “Former President Trump was ‘furious’ and ‘beyond angry’ over his defense team’s showing on Day One of his second impeachment trial despite his ultimate acquittal almost certain, two sources told Fox News late Tuesday. Castor tried to defend himself, but just made it worse. “You put 100 people in the same room, you’re going to get 100 different opinions. We only lost one…so I believe we had a good day.”

Senator Bill Cassidy, Republican of Louisiana who voted with Democrats on constitutionality, said that those who listened to Trump’s team Monday “saw they were unfocused, they attempted to avoid the issue. And they talked about everything but the issue at hand.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich agrees. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen as bad a defense team as the president sent up, and I have no idea what they thought they were doing. There’s a good case to be made. I thought they were going to make it. I think it’s amazing that they only lost one Republican given the absolute lack of a coherent defense.”

“I’m surprised he didn’t fire [Bruce Castor] some time during the afternoon. It was that bad. Bad lawyers can lose good cases. That’s the danger here…The fact is that to say to [74.2 million] Americans we’re going to dictate to you who you are allowed to vote for is just not sustainable. But on the other hand the Democrats are trying to scar up Trump to weaken him.” Which means they are still very afraid of him.
