Sen. Cruz Wants Term Limits On Politicians, Dems Disagree

Being a politician was always about serving the people, it was never meant to be a career job. Before Ted Cruz or the Republicans even called for term limits to be put on Congress and the House, the founding Fathers knew the dangers of career politicians and what they could mean to Democracy. Now, Ted Cruz is once again standing up for Democracy and demanding that term limits be enforced.

Speaking on the subject, Cruz said, “Every year, Congress spends billions of dollars on giveaways for the well-connected: Washington insiders get taxpayer money and members of Congress get re-elected, all while the system fails the American people. It’s no wonder that the vast majority of Americans from every political stripe – Republicans, Democrats, and Independents – overwhelmingly support congressional term limits.”

As for the specifics, Cruz believes that Congress should be held to two six-year terms while the House only gets two three-year terms. The recent move comes after Democrats have sensationalized the life of a politician. Thanks to social media and big tech, politicians have unfiltered access to the American people. They give opinions, constantly lobby, and even share the occasional photo-op. Supposedly, All in the name of Democracy.

Senator Cruz reiterated the same statement when he said, “The rise of political careerism in today’s Congress is a sharp departure from what the Founders intended for our federal governing bodies. I have long called for this solution for the brokenness of Washington, D.C., and I will continue fighting to hold career politicians accountable. As I have done in the past, I urge my colleagues to submit this constitutional amendment to the states for speedy ratification.”

Luckily, Senator Cruz isn’t the only member of the Republican party that believes in term limits. He is backed by Sen. Mike Braum (R-Ind.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), and Rick Scott (R-Fla.).

While this isn’t the first time that the Republicans have introduced a similar bill, it does show where the party stands when it comes to Democracy and the American people. These politicians are willing to give up their jobs for America, yet not a single Democrat back the amendment.

Why is that exactly?

These are the questions that need to be asked to not only politicians but the President as well. But for now, reporters remain to ask the hard-hitting questions on color schemes and favorite ice cream.
