House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has called for President Donald Trump to be removed from office immediately through the 25th Amendment for allegedly inciting a riot when a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday.
Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) called on Vice President Mike Pence and Trump’s cabinet to remove him from office immediately, describing the president as “a very dangerous person” who committed an “act of sedition.”
“I join the Senate Democratic leader in calling on the vice president to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th amendment,” she said, according to USA Today. “If the vice president and cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment.”

“The president has committed an unspeakable assault on our nation and our people,” Pelosi said, according to Fox News. “By inciting sedition as he did yesterday, he must be removed from office. While it’s only 13 days left, any day can be a horror show for America.”
Pelosi went on to say that she wants an answer from Pence today on invoking the 25th amendment.
“The president of the United States incited an insurrection against America,” Pelosi said.
This came after Schumer released a statement calling for the 25th amendment to be invoked.
“What happened at the U.S. Capitol yesterday was an insurrection against the United States, incited by the president. This president should not hold office one day longer,” Schumer said. “The quickest and most effective way – it can be done today – to remove this president from office would be for the Vice President to immediately invoke the 25th Amendment.”
The 25th amendment states that the Vice President and a majority of the cabinet can declare the president unable to “discharge the powers and duties of his office.” If the president disputes this, however, two-thirds of both the House and the Senate must vote in favor of the vice president to be put in charge for that to actually happen.
Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger has also called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked.
“I think yesterday it became clear that the president is unmoored from reality and from his oath and I think the vice president taking over and ensuring that the next couple weeks are a peaceful transfer is essential right now to the continuation of this strong union,” Kinzinger said. He added that while he was “acting alone” in calls for removing Trump, he “wouldn’t be surprised” if others in his party join him.
