Goya Foods has named the radically liberal Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as its employee of the month after their sales spiked following her voicing her support for a boycott of the company’s CEO over his support for President Donald Trump.
“So we gave her an honorary, we never were able to hand it to her, but she got employee of the month for bringing attention to Goya and our adobo,” he added.
Unanue went on to say that Ocasio-Cortez’s attacks on Goya allowed the company to expand its reach to “so many new people” while also holding onto its base of customers.
Ocasio-Cortez was quick to turn on Goya back in July, after Unanue praised President Trump during an event at the White House, according to the New York Post.
“We’re all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder,” Unanue said immediately after Trump signed an executive order on the “White House Hispanic Prosperity Initiative.”
While Ocasio-Cortez did not specifically tweet the words “boycott Goya,” she made it clear that she was encouraging people to no longer buy the brand when she tweeted, “Oh look, it’s the sound of me Googling ‘how to make your own Adobo,’” referring to one of the company’s most popular seasonings.
“Get yourself friends like these: this tweet wasn’t up for TWO MINUTES when my friend hit me up with the recipe. (Their note: ‘the ginger is controversial, but worth it’),” she added alongside an Adobo recipe that she claims came from a friend.

In his latest interview, Unanue said it was “interesting” to see Ocasio-Cortez calling to boycott Goya and “go against her own people … to go against people of her own Latin culture.”
“To some extent I can understand AOC. She’s young, she’s naive, she doesn’t get it. But you’ve got someone like [Senator Bernie] Sanders, who’s older than us … other than me, who still doesn’t get it,” he added.
Ocasio-Cortez has since denied ever calling for a Goya boycott, and has somehow spun this situation into an attack on Fox News.
“No, I just googled how to make my own adobo,” she tweeted. “But of course Fox would rather indulge their made up fantasies than acknowledge that in the Trump admin’s catastrophic response to COVID, millions of people rushed to buy canned goods which then had to be rationed at grocery stores.”

Ocasio-Cortez can deny that she wanted a Goya boycott all she wants to, but the intentions behind her tweets about the country are clear. In the end, the American people just aren’t as dumb as she thinks we are.
