The Left outplayed us on some issues this election cycle. One of those is what classic red types used to call “The Popular Front.” Liberals, Leftists, Socialists, and Bolshies would call a truce and refrain from internecine political operations until they beat the Right. Then it was back to civil war, but not until the big mission had been accomplished. See just below, the Left is still doing it. Notice the Big Labor UAW sign at the communist rally. Now, do you get it?
Leftists are often nostalgic for the “red decade” of the 1930s and 40s when the Communist Party participated in the anti-fascist “popular front” while organizing the unemployed during the Great Depression. Our time will come again! https://t.co/DMYUOhbzOp [1]

In the presidential fight we’re seeing that, as the hard left thinks Biden won (they may be right) and are already going after other less left wing groups in the Democrat Party. But for the election they were all one big commie family, mostly. Gotta give them some credit on that one. Soviets also used it to great effect during World War Two and the Cold War. Worked in the first instance, not the second. Though Lenin and Stalin must be grinning in hell over their ideological descendant’s virtual control over the Democrats.
So, we need to take a page and call a truce amongst the Right. Except for Mitt Romney, John Kasich, or anyone else who outright works for the German occupation…I mean, potential Biden administration.
I myself have a particular loathing for blind and gullible Red Tsunami true believers and Q Anon lunatics. But hey, all hands on deck. We’ll go back to sniping after we have the House and the Oval Office without dispute again. Until then, truce. No more snide remarks about them in this column. At least, for the most part. Kinda. Okay, fine.
It recalls the GOP truce of the 1970s and 80s. Then populist conservatives like Pat Buchanan made common cause with big business conservatives like Malcolm Forbes, who broke bread with national security conservatives like Ronald Reagan, who was best friends with intellectual Metropolitan conservatives like Bill Buckley, who agreed with a lot of what social conservative evangelical Moral Majority Founder Rev. Jerry Falwell had to say.
Remember at the end of the Kansas City convention in ’76 when, after he beat him, Jerry Ford called Reagan up to speak? Yeah, we gotta do that.
It was one tolerable, though highly dysfunctional, family. And it won us elections. But after we won the Cold War, especially after Buchanan’s challenge to Bush the Elder and Buchanan’s culture war speech at the 1992 Houston convention, the alliance was over. It really hasn’t been put back together since.
I’m not saying it will be easy and I’m not saying everybody no matter what should be in the GOP tent. But channeling the Gipper, he said somebody who agrees with me on 70 percent of the issues is not my political enemy. Yup.
