Breaking news coming out of Russia is that President Vladimir Putin is considering stepping down as early as 2021. While this does come as a shock to many people, Putin has been the president on and off for the past two decades. With years of turmoil and fraudulent claims, Putin is now being described as having early-onset Parkinson’s disease.
Just turning 68-years-old, Putin is stepping down on his own accord. While the news hasn’t been made official, those closest to him are urging the Russian president to step down. Even political scientist Valery Solovei told news outlets that Alina Kabaeva and his two adult daughters are pushing for him to leave the office. While Putin would love to remain in power, sources claim that he is planning to hand over the presidency this coming January.
Solovei went on to tell reporters, “There is a family, it has a great influence on him. He intends to make public his handover plans in January.” With such a sudden change of power just a few months away, many are worried about what this could mean for the future of Russia. While there is still such much unknown about Putin, there have even been claims that this is all a hoax to help push forward legislation that would make it illegal to prosecute a former president. As it stands in Russia, a president can’t be charged with a crime while being in office.
First reported by The Sun, the outlet wrote, “Kremlin watchers said recent tell-tale footage showed the 68-year-old strongman had possible symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Observers who studied recent footage of Putin noted his legs appeared to be in constant motion and he looked to be in pain while clutching the armrest of a chair,” the outlet continued. “His fingers are also seen to be twitching as he held a pen and gripped a cup believed to contain a cocktail of painkillers.”
As news broke about the alleged illness of the Russian president, Putin quickly became one of the top trending names on the internet. With words spreading fast, it wasn’t long before a Russian spokesperson chimed in claiming it was all nonsense and that Putin is in excellent health and he isn’t looking to step down anytime soon.
