Last month, we reported [1] that former Ghostbusters star Rick Moranis had been assaulted in New York City in a random attack. Now, nearly six weeks later, a suspect has finally been arrested for this horrifying crime.
The New York Police Department took to Twitter on Saturday to say that thanks to “an eagle-eyed sergeant” from the NYPD Transit, their suspect has been “apprehended and charged.” NBC News [2] reported that the suspect has been identified as 35 year-old Marquis Ventura. He has been arrested on suspicion of assault in the second degree, which includes the allegation that he had “intent to cause serious physical injury to another person.”
Moranis, 67, had been walking near his New York City apartment on the morning of October 2 when someone suddenly punched him in the head out of nowhere in broad daylight. The entire assault was captured on camera and the video was later released by the NYPD Crime Stoppers. The chilling footage shows the suspect knocking Moranis to the ground before calmly walking away as if nothing had happened.

The NYPD told Entertainment Tonight [6] at the time that Moranis suffered from pain to the head, back, and right hip and went to an area hospital for evaluation. Once he had been treated, the Honey I Shrunk The Kids star reported the crime to police at the 20th Precinct.
“Rick Moranis was assaulted on the Upper West Side yesterday,” a rep for Moranis said. “He is fine but grateful for everyone’s thoughts and well wishes.”
Moranis had a hugely successful acting career before he stepped back from the film industry in 1997 to raise his children as a single father following the death of his wife, Anne. Earlier this year, it was announced that Moranis would be making his movie comeback in a new Honey I Shrunk The Kids film that is set to be called Shrunk.
After the attack, Captain America star Chris Evans spoke out to give his thoughts on what had happened to Moranis.
“My blood is boiling. Find this man,” Evans, 39, tweeted. “You don’t touch Rick Moranis.”

Many fans feel the exact same way that Evans does.
