Reba McEntire Opens Up About Her 2020 Journey From Her Mother’s Death To Finding Love Again

2020 has been difficult for all of us, but for country music legend Reba McEntire, it has been a particularly rocky year with some high highs and low lows. The year started off badly for McEntire, as she lost her mother in March, but things have since turned around for her in a big way as she’s found love again.

Good Morning America [1] reported that the singer’s mother Jacqueline McEntire passed away back in March at the age of 93 following a battle with cancer. Her death happened right at the start of the coronavirus pandemic as our country was going into lockdown.

“I think the thing that grounded me the most was my momma getting sick and leaving all of this — all of the big dreams and the plans — to go take care of her,” McEntire said. She went on to remember some of her last moments with her mom, recalling that she was “crawling up in bed with her at night and crying” as she also wondered how she could ever go on without her mother.

Though she initially postponed her mother’s burial “indefinitely” due to COVID-19, McEntire got the chance to “say goodbye” at a private memorial service a few weeks later. She is looking forward to having a larger service honoring Jacqueline when things go back to normal.

“Momma was a show dog,” McEntire said with a laugh. “She liked the whole court and she liked to have an audience, so we’re going to give her that one of these days. I don’t know when it’s gonna be, but it’s gonna be good and something that she deserves.”

Thankfully, 2020 has since gotten a whole lot better for McEntire after this low point, as she has since found love again with the actor Rex Linn.

“I’m in love, so that really inspires me to find love songs, to find happy songs,” the singer said. “I’ve always been the queen of waltzes, the queen of sad songs, because I just gravitate to those kinds of songs.”

McEntire went on to say that she feels like a “giddy teenager again,” adding that she is channeling all of the emotions of this year into her music. In fact, she’s already recorded eight songs for her next project.

“Music has always been therapy for me,” McEntire explained. “It’s very healing.”
