Prince William was reportedly announced with moves that his brother Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan Markle made surrounding the birth of their son Archie in 2019, a longtime royal biographer has alleged.
Royal biographer Robert Lacey told Fox News [1] that Archie was born at 5:26 a.m. on May 6, 2019. Contrary to tradition, Buckingham Palace did not announce that Meghan had gone into labor until hours after Archie was born, and by the time the news got out, she and Harry were already home from the hospital with their son.
Though Harry and Meghan did this to protect their privacy, it did not impress William, who felt that the couple were carrying out “prima donna maneuvers.” Lacey discovered this after speaking to numerous palace insiders for his new book “Battle Of The Brothers,” which chronicles the rift between William and Harry.
“At that stage, it was difficult for Meghan and Harry to conceal the birth of their son because they were still on the payroll of the British monarchy,” Lacey said. “We have a tradition here in Britain that royal babies should be seen and enjoyed by the public. But instead, Meghan and Harry chose to follow their own rules and have their baby in private. It is understood that William felt they should have gone through the motions of showing the baby to the public as members of the royal family.”
Lacey added that William and his wife Kate Middleton allegedly waited “a full eight days” to go meet their newborn nephew, and when they finally did so, they didn’t even bring their own three young children.
“A lot of people have told me William has a temper,” said Lacey. “He has taken comfort in the fact that his future destiny is to be king. That’s what has kept him going. Duty comes before all.”
The rift between the brothers has only widened since Harry stepped down as a senior royal earlier this year and moved to Los Angeles, California with his wife and their son. Lacey said that while the brothers “speak on the phone from time to time,” it will be quite some time before their relationship heals, if it ever does.
“I think it would always have happened that Meghan and Harry would live on the other side of the world,” he explained. “I think Meghan and Harry will remain based in North America. Unless the brothers can find a way to reconcile, they will have to go their separate ways and keep mutual respect for each other.”
“We do know that in July 2021, both brothers have committed to being in Kensington Gardens for the unveiling of the statue dedicated to their late mother, Princess Diana,” Lacey added. “The world will judge then. But there is a lot of work to be done.”
