On Saturday, the original James Bond himself Sean Connery died in his sleep at the age of 90. Pierce Brosnan, who played Bond in four movies from 1995-2002, spoke out after his passing today tribute to the legendary star.
“Sir Sean Connery, you were my greatest James Bond as a boy, and as a man who became James Bond himself. You cast a long shadow of cinematic splendor that will live on forever,” Brosnan wrote in a statement. “You led the way for us all who followed in your iconic foot steps. Each man in his turn looked to you with reverence and admiration as we forged ahead with our own interpretations of the role.”
“You were mighty in every way, as an actor and as a man, and will remain so till the end of time. You were loved by the world, and will be missed. God bless, rest now, be at peace,” he added.

Connery was the first actor to play the iconic British secret agent Bond, starring in s even movies as the character from 1962’s Dr. No to 1983’s Never Say Never Again. Brosnan took over the role in 1995’s Goldeneye, and continued playing it until 2002’s Die Another Day.
Back in August, Brosnan took to social media to wish Connery a happy 90th birthday.
“Happy 90th birthday Sir Sean Connery … I was eleven years old in 1964, just off the plane from Ireland when I saw Goldfinger at the ABC Cinema on Putney High Street,” he wrote alongside a photo of himself and Connery. “You were my Bond of inspiration.”
Daniel Craig, who is the current actor playing Bond, paid tribute to Connery after his passing as well.
“It is with such sadness that I heard of the passing of one of the true greats of cinema,” said Craig, 52. “Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and so much more. He defined an era and a style. The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could be measured in megawatts; he helped create the modern blockbuster. He will continue to influence actors and film-makers alike for years to come.”
“My thoughts are with his family and loved ones,” he added. “Wherever he is, I hope there is a golf course.”
