In the liberal world of Hollywood, it’s rare to find a relationship that is able to stand the test of time. That’s what makes the 37 year-long relationship of stars Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell so special!
Hawn, 74, and Russell, 69, have been together since 1983, and though they’ve never actually gotten married, they remain utterly devoted to one another. In a new interview with Parade magazine, they revealed the secret of what has allowed them to stay together for so long.
Russell explained that Hawn’s sense of humor always effortlessly brightens up his day.
“Goldie can literally physically walk away sometimes and make me laugh,” Russell said. “She’s funny by nature. She just…is.”
Hawn said that while Russell isn’t known for his joke, he is the wise one of their relationship. He spoke up to remind the actress of his “pretty goofy dance movements,” to which she replied, “Every once in a while, you are goofy. I forgot about that Alexa moment.”
Hawn went on to share some advice for other couples.
“It’s not about what you do, it’s how you do it,” she said.
Another thing that has helped Hawn and Russell’s relationship is that they are always staying active. Russell credited her for being the reason he is still so fit at nearly 70.
“I’m quite sure that if it weren’t for Goldie, I’d probably weigh 300 pounds by now,” he said.
Hawn explained that she stays fit by using her mini trampoline and focusing on a healthy diet, with meditation being a factor as well.
She added that getting older means “there’s something other than just our lives we have to care about.” While physical health is important, the actress said that “happiness and purpose” are two other top priorities in life.
This comes four years after Hawn revealed why she and Russell decided to never get married.
“I would have been long divorced if I got married,” Hawn told Britain’s ITV “Loose Women.”
“If you need to be bound to someone, then it’s important to be married. If you are independent, then it’s important to not be married,” the Academy Award-winner added.
Hawn concluded her latest interview by saying that after a difficult year amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the holiday season will be more about “giving.”
“Giving is going to be even more important than ever,” Hawn said. “I think we need to just have fun, laugh and feel there’s magic in the air.”
