Dolly Parton To Kick Off Holiday Season By Starring In ‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’

CBS announced on Wednesday that the network will be ringing in the holiday season with an hour-long Christmas special starring none other than the country music legend Dolly Parton.

“A Holly Dolly Christmas,” which is set to air live on December 6, will feature Parton sharing her music from her new Christmas album of the same name in an intimate, candlelit setting. She will be singing holiday songs, and sharing both her faith and her love of Christmas with her fans, according to Fox News [1].

On top of her music, Parton will also be telling some personal Christmas stories, and opening up about some of her religious memories from this time of year.

“I am so proud to be a part of the CBS family this holiday season with my new Christmas special,” the 74 year-old icon said in a statement.

“When Dolly Parton calls and tells you she wants to do a Christmas show, you don’t hesitate,” added Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music & Live Events/Alternative & Reality for CBS. “A special with the multi-Grammy Award-winning, prolific song-writing, epic live performer of all time? She had us at hello. There’s only one Dolly Parton, and we are so excited to be bringing her to viewers this holiday season.”

Parton had previously opened up about why she decided to release her first Christmas album in decades this year.

“I’ve been wanting to release a Christmas album for a while now because I just love Christmas and though we started recording before the pandemic, this year became the perfect time to spread some extra joy,” she explained. “I think the spirit of Christmas and what it truly means can spill out into our families and make this a better Christmas than ever. Hopefully, ‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’ will make everyone feel holly and jolly this season.”

The country music star had previously released the Christmas albums “Home for Christmas” in 1990 and “Once Upon a Christmas,” with the late Kenny Rogers, in 1984.

Putting this new album together was no easy task amidst the coronavirus, however.

“We were working in our little circle with our masks and with our gloves and we had our engineer and we just had the very few people that we had to have when we were in there when I was singing,” Parton told Billboard. [2]

“We’ve been very smart, very careful, because we’re trying to protect ourselves and I’m an older person,” she added. “I’m not out to get it if I don’t [have] to, I’m hoping I can outrun all that. We’ve been all very, very smart, but it didn’t slow us up.”
