Yesterday, we reported that “America’s Got Talent” judge Simon Cowell had learned that he would be bedridden for six months due to complications from spinal surgery that he underwent after breaking his back in a devastating electric bike accident back in August.
Now, a new update has come in about Cowell’s health, with a source saying that the British television personality is recovering well despite reports that he is bedridden.
“He’s doing really well and is recovering well and ahead of what was expected,” the source told Entertainment Tonight of Cowell. “He’s doing over 10000 steps a day as well as swimming to get his back strong and healed again. He no longer needs to wear a back brace all the time.”
After breaking his back in the bike accident two months ago, Cowell underwent a six hour surgery. He went through several other procedures and fusions as well, including having a metal rod inserted in his back.
Days after his surgery, the 61 year-old’s fellow judges on “America’s Got Talent” told reporters that he was “recovering tremendously.”
“He’s had a six-hour operation and he is already on his feet, which is above and beyond expectation, so I am thrilled,” said judge Howie Mandel. “I love the guy, I miss the guy, and my hearts and minds are with him and each and every moment.”
This comes after another insider claimed that Cowell would bedridden for the next six months after the surgery.
“It’s been a rough few weeks,” a source told The Sun. “Simon’s a fighter and fairly gung-ho. Naturally, he thought he’d be out of action for a few weeks and then, if not doing iron man contests, at least be back on the showbiz circuit.”
“Instead, he’s had a setback from surgery to fuse two vertebrae and it has proven more complicated than a standard break,” the insider added.
Cowell has reportedly been undergoing physical therapy at his home in Malibu, California.
“He’s on the mend and trying to be patient which is not something that comes terribly naturally to him,” the source said.
After his accident, Cowell showed that his sense of humor was very much intact when he tweeted, “Some good advice, if you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I’ve broken part of my back. Thanks for all the your kind messages.”
