Earlier this week, we reported [1] that Brian Basham, a family friend of the Maxwells, had launched a campaign to get Ghislaine Maxwell released from prison. Now, television personality and former prosecutor Nancy Grace is firing back to blast this campaign as “delusional.”
The cornerstone of Basham’s campaign is his claims that Maxwell is being mistreated in prison. He alleged that she has lost 25 pounds in the four months that she has been incarcerated, and that she is on the verge of starvation because prison officials have not respected her vegan diet. Basham also claimed that Maxwell has struggled with having to wear paper clothes, and that the 58 year-old British socialite believes she is specifically being singled out for “cruel” and “vindictive” treatment,
“Epstein: Dead Men Tell No Tales” author Melissa Cronin, however, was not having any of it. While appearing on Fox Nation [2], Cronin told Grace that “Operation GGO” is “just another example of how delusional” Maxwell is.
“Brian Basham said that he finds it appalling how she’s being treated in prison,” Cronin said. ” Anyone who knows anything about this case finds it appalling that someone would think there was any chance this woman should be released. You know, [it’s] just another example of how delusional she is.”
Grace took issue with Basham’s claim that corrections officials removed a scale from Maxwell’s cell after she complained about her weight loss. The former special prosecutor wasn’t buying this, saying that she has ” never once, in all the jails I’ve ever been in, seen an inmate with a set of scales.”
“What a big fat lie,” Grace continued.
“That’s the first thing I thought,” said Anne Bremner, a high-profile attorney who was on the show as well. “I’ve never heard of an inmate having scales in their cell and having them taken away because they’re losing weight. I mean, that just does not ring true.”
Basham has taken issue with the fact that a judge has denied Maxwell bail, deeming her to be a flight risk given her immense wealth and international connections. Cronin agrees with the judge on this.
“She is one of the biggest flight risks that I’ve ever seen or heard in my entire journalistic career,” Cronin said to Grace. “She’s not just capable of finding a private plane, she’s capable of flying it herself, she was actually a helicopter pilot for Jeffrey Epstein and brought the victims back and forth from the islands.”
She added that Maxwell “just has to realize that she might have gotten away with it for years so far, but now that the hand of justice has come down on her and she’s not getting away with it, she’s not going to get special treatment. She just has to wake up to the reality that her time has come.”
