Miley Cyrus spoke out this week to reveal that country music legend Dolly Parton, who happens to be her godmother, had a very old fashioned way of asking her to perform a duet with her on her new Christmas album.
While appearing on “The Graham Norton Show,” Cyrus revealed that Parton sent her a fax asking her to collaborate on a song on her Christmas album.
“So Dolly Parton, she called you?” Norton asked.
“She faxed me,” responded Cyrus, 27. She went on to add that she does not even own a fax machine.
“She gets upset when you don’t respond,” Cyrus explained of the 74-year-old country music icon. “And it’s like, I’m sorry, I don’t even know. Half the people watching your show might not even know what a fax machine is.”
She went on to say that her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, owns an old fax machine that allows him to accept faxes. She said that he also has two Blackberry phones from 2005.
“He says two Blackberries equal an iPhone, which is not true,” Cyrus continued. “But he’s also one of those.”
People Magazine [1] reported that Cyrus teamed up with Parton to perform “Christmas Is” on the album “A Holly Dolly Christmas,” which was released in August.
“Dolly reached out about doing a Christmas record with her and only for Dolly Parton do you sing a Christmas carol in July,” Cyrus said. “But she makes physical records and so she had to get it turned in. I was singing about Christmas in the middle of L.A. summer, and only for Dolly.”
Parton previously talked about why she decided to release her first Christmas album in thirty years right now specifically.
“I’ve been wanting to release a Christmas album for a while now because I just love Christmas and though we started recording before the pandemic, this year became the perfect time to spread some extra joy,” Parton told Fox News [2]. “I think the spirit of Christmas and what it truly means can spill out into our families and make this a better Christmas than ever. Hopefully, ‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’ will make everyone feel holly and jolly this season.”
