Earlier today, we reported that former “Full House” actress Lori Loughlin had shocked everyone by reporting to prison weeks before her November 19 deadline to begin serving her two month sentence for her role in the college admissions scandal. Now, sources have come forward to reveal the reason why she decided to surrender early.
A legal source close to Loughlin told People Magazine [1] that while she had the option to wait until November 19 to begin her sentence, she instead opted to start it early so that she could be out by the end of the year and start 2021 with a clean slate.
“She hopes to be home by Christmas, but she’ll definitely be home by New Year’s,” the source explained. “She had everything in order, so she decided a couple of days ago to report to prison. She can put this behind her as she goes into 2021.”
Both Loughlin and her husband, designer Mossimo Giannulli, had been ordered to report to prison on November 19 to begin their respective sentences after pleading guilty to fraud charges related to them paying $500,000 in bribe money to have their two daughters admitted to the University of Southern California as members of the crew team, even though neither girl had ever rowed before. Giannulli was sentenced to five months in prison, and there are no reports that he decided to begin his sentence on Friday as well.
Loughlin took a plea deal in which she would spend two months in jail, pay a $150,000 fine, and complete 150 hours of community service. Her husband’s deal involved him spending five months in jail, a $250,000 fine and 250 hours of community service.
Another source close to Loughlin had said earlier this week that she was mentally prepping herself for her two months behind bars.
“She is going to set her jaw and do her time,” the source said. “Of course she’s dreading it, but she’s resigned that it’s the way to get this behind her. She’s already thinking about how 2021 will be better for her, and she’ll be able to move forward.”
“There’s some humility there that people didn’t see before,” the insider added. “She’s going to learn what she can from the experience, and hopefully become an even better person from this. She’s open to learn the lessons that she needs to learn.”
