Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is still seemingly trying to blame Donald Trump for the kidnapping plot against her that was foiled by the FBI earlier this month, despite the fact that the president had nothing to do with it.
In an interview with CBS News on Wednesday, Whitmer accused Trump of stoking a “mob mentality” toward public officials as she also baselessly suggested he had downplayed the kidnapping plot against her.
“I don’t think it’s funny,” she said of the president’s rhetoric. “And anyone who thinks it’s funny has a real twisted sense of what humor is.”
While Trump had criticized Whitmer during a rally in Lansing the day before, he focused on her strict stay-at-home orders that she imposed during the coronavirus earlier this year.
When the crowd began chanting “lock her up” as soon as he mentioned Whitmer’s name, Trump said, “I don’t comment on that because every time, if I make just even a little bit of a nod, they say, ‘the president led them on.’ Now, I don’t have to lead you on.”
In the eyes of Whitmer, however, Trump even daring to criticize things she’s done as a governor somehow is a threat to her safety.
“Every time he sets his sights on me, I get more death threats. The violent rhetoric has an uptick. And there’s no question that it’s had an impact,” Whitmer said.
“I’ve had to have conversations with my teenage children about why there’s people with AR-15s on our front lawn on more than one occasion,” she added. “People are looking for any hook to legitimize these domestic terrorism tendencies. And I think that Donald Trump knows that, and it’s not a coincidence, and he’s feeding it.”
Not stopping there, she accused Trump of stoking a “mob mentality” and downplaying the kidnapping plot once again.
“I think that the mob mentality that has been stoked, the fear that has been exploited, the anger that has been incited, is real and it has real impacts,” Whitmer continued, adding that Trump allegedly downplaying the plot “tells you everything you need to know about the character of this president.”

Whitmer happens to serve as the co-chair of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, and she claims to be confidant that he will beat Trump.
“I see a lot of enthusiasm for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris,” she alleged. “I do think that the enthusiasm will be revealed in the sheer number of people that are coming out to vote.”
You can likely expect to see Whitmer continuing to use her kidnapping plot to campaign against Trump many more times in the week to come.
