A mother from Kansas and her four children were tragically killed on Friday night when a truck allegedly ran a red light and crashed into their SUV.
PEOPLE magazine reported that the horrific accident took place on Friday night at 71st and 263rd streets near Viola. Officials with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a family of five southbound in an SUV that was hit by a truck that was traveling east.
All of the occupants of the SUV were killed, with the victims being identified as Jessica Noel, 32, Anaiah Brady, 10, Jeffrey Thompson III, 4, and Mack Thompson, 1, and 4-month-old Hank Thompson. The driver of the truck was not left with any serious injuries.
Noel’s family said on a GoFundMe page that Jessica had taken her children grocery shopping on the night of the crash.
“On Friday, September 25th, 2020, my Uncle Jeff returned home with my cousin Brooklyn (10) after work to an empty house after his wife said she was getting groceries but had not returned with the four other children,” the GoFundMe page stated. “Jeff made phone calls and then got a call from a good friend concerned about a car accident close to their home. Jeff went to the scene of the accident.”
Police told the family that the SUV was struck by a grain-filled semi-truck that ran a red light going 55 miles per hour. Noel, Anaiah, Jeffrey and Hank were killed instantly, while Mack died at a nearby hospital the day after the crash.
“Twenty-three-month-old Mack fought hard but succumbed to his injuries on September 26th, 2020. Jeff (35) and Brooklyn (10) are the only members left of his entire family after his horrific tragedy. Tess (Jessica, 32), Anaiah (10), Jeffrey (4), Mack (23 months), and Hank (4 months),” the GoFundMe page said.
“We are asking for assistance to pay for the medical expenses and funeral arrangements for all 5 members of the family,” wrote the organizer of the GoFundMe. “Anything you can give will be appreciated during this extremely difficult time of grief and unfathomable loss.”
At the time of this writing, the GoFundMe page has raised over $66,000. The identity of the truck driver has not been released at this time, and it is not known whether or not he will be facing charges.
