According to Turkish media [1], the Albanian government will close three schools that are allegedly run by the FETO organisation.
This is the organisation that is said to be behind the attempted coup d’etat in Turkey in 2016. Since the attempt, President Erdogan has arrested and imprisoned thousands of teachers, journalists, activists, civil servants, and their families.
He has also ordered the extradition of many others from other countries around the world. Many have refused as they state that sending them back [2] to Turkey would put them in danger but both Kosovo and Albania [3] have done so in highly suspicious circumstances. [4]
The three schools will include the Memorial International School of Tirana, Haffix Abdulla Zembaku madrasah in Korce and Ali Korca madrasah in Kavaje. The decisions were made on 16 and 23 of September.
The decision comes after Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama made a personal visit to Erdogan’s summer residence.
